We say that these ‘scientometrics’ are nothing more than a misrepresentation of meaningless random visits. Even if one considers the traditionally accepted measure, the counting of citations made by writers in reputable journals, one finds a quite shocking level of self-referencing; often making up over 90% of the total citations. The very length of time that this farce has been going on, without having any detectable effect in the real world, is further proof that any claimed success is a sad delusion.
